Bringing Stale Tobacco Back To Life

Dried tobacco leavesMany tobacco smokers who buy their own leaves have to deal with the nuisance of stale tobacco. No one should have to waste their hard-earned money on stale leaves.

If one searches the internet for answers on how to store tobacco, he or she will find plenty of information to help with this problem.

One such search leads to Wikihow, and they provide an excellent article that explains how to make stale tobacco smokeable. The article states that there are three ways to rehydrate tobacco: heating, using food products and dampening.

According to Wikihow, the first step for rehydrating tobacco is to heat the tobacco (1). Wikihow states “Use a teapot. Get a teapot with a tea basket that sits on the top. Add enough boiling water so that it doesn’t touch the top basket and ruin the tobacco. Put the tobacco in the basket. Cover the teapot and leave it to sit for 30 minutes” (1).

The next step is to “Preheat a steam iron to the hottest setting. Place a newspaper on a heat resistant surface. Spread your tobacco out onto the newspaper. Use a spray nozzle to spray the tobacco with water once or twice” (1). They go on to state, “Hold the iron above the tobacco and let steam for 10 seconds. Be careful not to touch the iron to the tobacco” (1).

The next method, according to Wikihow, is to rehydrate using fruit products. To do this, one can either moisten using an orange peel and sealing the tobacco in a jar with the orange peel (1). The tobacco user can also put the tobacco and a potato in a plastic bag and leave the two products sitting together overnight. The last method involving food is to hydrate the tobacco leaf with bread. The tobacco and the bread are sealed in a plastic bag and left together overnight (1).

The last method of rehydrating tobacco is to simply moisten the tobacco. Wikihow states, “Spread about half the tobacco evenly over a paper towel. Lightly mist the tobacco with a water-filled spray bottle. Fluff the mixture with your fingers. Repeat until the tobacco is just slightly damp.

Mix the moistened tobacco in a plastic bag with the rest of the stale tobacco” (1). The second method of moistening involves covering the tobacco with a cloth and leaving it covered for a few hours (1). The last method of rehydrating tobacco is to moisten it with a sponge (1). Don’t ever waste your bucks on stale tobacco again! Re-moisten your tobacco with these tips, and enjoy!
